write a lengthy entry about why I dislike Nick Hornby but I am not in the mood.
So here comes the short version.
What bothers me is, that all his books follow the shame scheme.
His charactars are the same everytime, at the same point in their lives and at the end of the book they end up at the same point.
The few interesting charactars are looked down upon or made "change" to fit into a scheme.
I was especially annoyed with how the boy in "About a Boy" was coaxed to fit into a certains scheeme, and that then made the bullying stop and got him friends. Oh, I forgot, it got him the right friends. He'd made friends before, but they weren't the right ones.
Call me hung up, but as someone I never had any friends at school until I was 18 I can tell you, this is absolute bollocks.
